Medical Identity Theft on the Rise with the Introduction of Obamacare

Medical identity theft is not a new way that criminals get your information.  This technique has been around for some time.  Now however, with the introduction of Obamacare, identity thieves are finding it easier to steal more peoples’ identities than ever before.

There is a lot of confusion that came with the introduction of Obamacare and identity thieves are using that to their advantage.  The government currently being shut down is making the website to purchase insurance even more difficult to use as when most people try to get on it, they find that it is down.  This gives the identity thieves the opening that makes it all too easy for them to steal someone’s identity.

One way that they are doing this is by making phone calls.  They will call someone up and pretend to be there to help them get signed up for insurance so that they will not be fined under the Obamacare law.  The poor unsuspecting person is convinced they are there to help them and then give them their information over the phone.  What everyone needs to know though is that they will not call you.  If you need help from someone you will have to make the phone call, they will not call you.  So if you get a call from someone saying they are with the government or whoever and they are calling to help you sign up for insurance under Obamacare try to get as much information from them as possible without giving them your information and then notify the police.

Another way that these thieves are attempting to commit medical identity fraud under Obamacare is to actually go to houses and try and get information that way.  They do not just go up to a house and ask for your information.  They say they are taking a survey or are helping people sign up through paperwork they will fill out.  No one is going to show up at your door to help you purchase your insurance.  If someone does show up at your door claiming they are there to help there is a very good chance that they are a medical identity thief and you should not give them your information, you should contact the police.

Medical identity theft is a serious problem and with the Obamacare act beginning it is that much easier for thieves to get ahold of your information.  Even if you do not receive a phone call or have someone show up at your door you are still at risk.  When you sign up for your insurance under Obamacare your information is put into a database and an identity thief could hack into it and get your information.

Now more than ever you should be trying to protect your identity.  Check your credit reports and make sure that you look over your medical bills very closely.  The last thing that you want is to become an identity theft statistic.  It is your responsibility to protect your identity, so remember with the Obamacare act started medical identity theft is on the rise so you have to be extra careful now.
